Preshow

Villa Volta is one of the few Madhouses that feature two preshows, which will be described in detail on this page.

The first preshow:
In the first preshow visitors will be informed on the story regarding the Goatriders and Hugo van den Loonsche Duynen. You will hear a narrator as well people from the eighteenth century giving comments about their experiences with the Goatriders. It needs no further explanation that the Goatriders induces great fear upon the citizens in that time. The first preshow shows, in what seems to be a somewhat dark, messy room. At each wall you will see all kinds of different things: a wagon wheel, ropes and fences. When you access the room, certain things draw your attention immediately: the room contains a number of doors, a mirror and a cloth. The doors have different functions: emergency exit, access to the operating room, and a passage to the next preshow. The mirror is used by the personnel to keep an eye on the visitors from the operating room. The cloth that hangs up, covers the sign of the Goat foot, which will be revealed during the show…

The second preshow:
In the second preshow, the story is being told by Hugo van den Loonsche Duynen himself. He starts talking about the house in which the visitors are right now and reflects back to that damned night in the Belgian Kemps. When he quotes the lady in the chapel, you will hear the lady’s voice simultaneously. She rules a curse and at the end of Hugo’s monologue he shows remorse and hopes the ban will be broken: his soul longs for peace.
The second preshow is a bit more spacious than the previous one, and upon entering, Hugo already sits down and is awaiting his new visitors. Hugo is a very realistic animatronic that is able to execute most movements real people would make: the animatronic contains fourteen moving parts. This room is richly decorated with all kinds of things that were stolen during the many riots of Hugo and his helpers: candlesticks, jewellery, and chandeliers. Beside Hugo hangs a painting of a man which is often mistaken for being Hugo is his younger years: on the contrary! This man is Ton van de Ven, the spiritual father of Villa Volta.
